Drake Law School Earns Top Ranking in Trial Advocacy
Monday, January 6th, 2025
Drake University Law School was awarded an A- ranking for trial advocacy by prelaw Magazine, placing Drake among the top schools in the nation.
The publication based the rankings on law schools’ offerings in trial advocacy, including programs and opportunities that allow students to develop their ability to deliver arguments, evidence, testimony, and substance. The results are reported in preLaw’s Winter 2025 issue.
Drake Law students graduate with exceptional hands-on experience, taking the lead in real-world trials even before earning their degrees. This year alone, student interns have participated in over 10 jury trials with responsibilities ranging from delivering opening statements to directing witnesses and handling pretrial motions.
Third-year student Ankit Pal credits his practical, real-world experiences as key to his development as a future attorney, noting that they provide a clear advantage over peers from other institutions. “I’ve played a lead role in five jury trials,” said Pal. “I wouldn’t have gotten this experience anywhere else.” His work as a student attorney has not only sharpened his trial and advocacy skills but also deepened his appreciation for integrity, ethical decision-making, and the human stories behind legal cases.
