Supporting your student through final exams

As we approach Thanksgiving break, it’s clear that students are also looking forward to their time at home! November can be a tough month for many, as students often feel overwhelmed and face motivational challenges. With midterm grades weighing heavily, it’s common for them to feel behind or anxious about the semester's end.
Now is the perfect moment for families to rally around their students! It’s not too late to finish the semester on a positive note. Here are some ways you can support them as they prepare for finals:
  1. Encourage Self-Care: Remind your student to prioritize their well-being. Adequate sleep, nutritious meals, hydration, and regular exercise can greatly enhance their focus and energy.
  2. Promote Early Studying: Suggest that they start reviewing material consistently. This approach helps keep information fresh and provides ample time to ask questions or seek help in challenging areas.
  3. Be Their Cheerleader: Send encouraging texts and check in regularly. Your support can uplift their spirits and remind them of the strong network cheering them on from home.
  4. Highlight Available Resources: Make sure they know about the various support options available. Access & Success offers academic coaching, study skills workshops, and tutoring in many subjects. The Counseling Center and UWill are available for personal challenges—remind them that seeking help is a sign of strength.
  5. Send a Care Package: A little surprise from home can boost their morale and remind them they’re loved and supported.
The end of the semester can be challenging, but a strong support system can make all the difference in helping students manage stress and finish strong. We’re here to support them every step of the way!
