Although Drake's major and minor in International Relations do not include a language requirement, students in both programs are strongly encouraged to develop competency in a second language relevant to their regional and professional interests. The ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend other languages opens up opportunities for crosscultural connection and understanding. Language competency is essential in many professional settings and overseas job placements. Knowledge of multiple languages provides access to spheres of knowledge, ideas, and insights otherwise out of reach.
