Celebrate the Times-Delphic’s birthday

The Times-Delphic will be celebrating its 140th birthday on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Times-Delphic office. The event, a potluck, will include good eats, good company and fun games. The party is open to anyone, J-School or not, so tell everyone to come.

SJMC grad writes autobiography

1954 SJMC grad and former managing editor of the Times Delphic, Tom Halbert, has written an autobiography.

Halbert’s book, “An American Gypsy: Around the World in 32,620 Days” is now available in paperback and through Amazon Kindle. The book title reflects the number of days between his birth to when he finished writing the book.

Halbert went on to become a Des Moines Register & Tribune sports reporter, sports editor of the Cedar Falls Daily Record, United Press State House Reporter, an Air Force combat pilot, to being PR advisor to four Secretaries of the Air Force before retiring as Executive Manager of Armed Forces Radio & Television Europe encompassing Iran to the Azores and Scandinavia to North Africa.

Thank your SJMC faculty and staff for all they do to support you. Cards are provided outside of the SJMC Dean’s Office (MER 118). We will also table outside of MER 106 on Wednesday, November 13 and Monday, November 18 between Noon and 1 p.m. Cards will be distributed to faculty and staff on Friday, November 22. 

Clothing drive

The Zimpleman College of Business and the Office of Community Engaged Learning are hosting a two-week professional clothing drive from November 11-22. We’re seeking gently used or new, pre-cleaned professional attire to support Drake students in a sustainable way.

Donations are welcome from all Drake faculty, students, and staff—no signup or prior registration required. From November 11th to 15th, various student organizations will be tabling in the Olmsted breezeway to collect donations. Additionally, items can be dropped off in the Wright Room on the second floor of Aliber Hall between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. throughout the drive.
