Music Major with Jazz Studies Concentration
PROGRAM OVERVIEW The concentration in jazz studies provides students with the necessary skills required for working as professional jazz and studio musicians. The concentration is not intended to be a substitute for any of the professional degrees offered by the Department of Music.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CONCENTRATION A total of 18 credit hours are required. Courses include Jazz History, Jazz Theory and Keyboard, Jazz Improvisation, Jazz Arranging and Composition, and Studio Recording Techniques. In addition, students enroll in a minimum of two semesters of Jazz Combo and two semesters of applied jazz lessons.
